The bow: what is up front and what it has to survive
The bow is the front of the boat. Its shape decides how the boat meets a wave, and its hardware decides whether you can stop the boat from drifting once the engine is off.
It is also the end that takes the abuse. Everything up front is either structural, part of the anchoring system, or a light that other boats need to see, and all three live in the wettest place on the boat.
The words for the front of a boat
The bow is the front. The stem is the leading edge itself, the line running down from the deck to the bottom of the hull. Forward and fore mean toward it, and a boat pointing into the waves is going head to sea.
The bow eye is the steel loop through the stem below deck level. It is what a trailer winch strap hooks to, and it is often the towing point too, so it is structural rather than decorative.
A pulpit is a platform extending forward past the stem, common on boats set up for anchoring or fishing. The rail around the front of the deck is the bow rail. The recess the anchor and its line drop into is the anchor locker.
Cleats are the fittings you tie to. Chocks are the smooth fairleads that guide a line over the edge without chafing it. On the bow they usually work as a pair.

The lights that live at the bow
Under the navigation rules a powerboat under way at night shows sidelights: red on the port side, green on the starboard side. On smaller boats these are frequently combined into a single fitting at the bow, which is why you will see products sold as a combination bow light.
The sidelights only cover the forward arcs. A stern light covers behind, and many small boats carry a white all-round light on a pole that can be seen from every direction, which is also what you show at anchor.
The practical failure here is not electrical. It is the lens: years of sun turn a red or green lens pale, and a faded lens is both harder to see and no longer showing the color the rules require.
Ground tackle: how the anchoring system actually works
Ground tackle is the collective name for the anchor and everything connecting it to the boat. The line and chain together are the rode.
Anchors work by burying themselves, not by weight alone, which is why type matters more than mass on most boats. A fluke anchor, often called a Danforth after the original, buries its two flat flukes in sand and mud and stows flat. A plow or scoop anchor sets in a wider range of bottoms and resets more reliably if the pull direction changes. A grapnel hooks rock and structure. A mushroom anchor holds a small boat in soft mud and is really a mooring weight.
The chain between anchor and line does two jobs: it resists abrasion where the rode drags on the bottom, and its weight helps keep the pull on the anchor horizontal, which is what lets an anchor bury rather than break out.
That horizontal pull is why you let out far more rode than the water is deep. The ratio of rode paid out to the depth is called scope, and more scope means a flatter angle at the anchor. Very short scope is the single most common reason an anchor drags.
A windlass is the winch that raises the anchor, controlled by a foot switch or a remote. A bow roller is the fitting the rode runs over so the anchor can be deployed and recovered without the chain sawing into the deck edge.

What goes wrong at the bow
Cleats pulling out. A cleat is only as strong as what is behind it. Through-bolted with a backing plate underneath, it will outlast the boat. Screwed into a thin deck, it will eventually tear out, usually while a line is loaded.
A blocked anchor locker drain. The locker fills with water, mud and weed, the drain clogs, and the weight sits right at the front of the boat where it hurts the ride most. Clear it, and check that the drain actually exits somewhere useful.
Chafe. A line working over an edge without a chock or a chafe guard wears through faster than most people expect, and it always fails at the worst moment.
Corrosion at the bow eye. It sits low, gets constant spray, and is frequently a different metal from the fastenings around it. Look for rust weeping and for movement.
